Leading Textile Firm Unveils Recycled Chemical Fiber with 85% Lower Carbon Footprint

2025 09/08

Global textile manufacturer EcoTex announced the launch of EcoCycle, a breakthrough recycled chemical fiber, at the International Textile Expo in Berlin on Wednesday. Unlike traditional polyester—derived from virgin petroleum—EcoCycle is produced using 100% post-consumer plastic waste (including discarded water bottles and textile scraps) and a novel low-temperature extrusion process.

Laboratory tests confirm the fiber matches the tensile strength and softness of conventional polyester, making it suitable for apparel, home textiles, and even activewear. “EcoCycle addresses two critical industry pain points: reliance on non-renewable resources and plastic pollution,” said Dr. Lena Herzog, EcoTex’s Chief Material Scientist. Early partners, including sportswear brand PeakFit and fast-fashion retailer GreenThread, plan to integrate the fiber into their 2025 spring collections.

Industry analysts note that recycled chemical fibers currently account for just 12% of the global synthetic fiber market, but demand is projected to grow at a 15% annual rate through 2030 as brands race to meet sustainability targets.
