China Leads Global Chemical Fiber Industry’s Green and Intelligent Transformation

2026 02/02

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) — As the world’s largest chemical fiber producer and exporter, China is spearheading the global sector’s shift toward high-end, eco-friendly and intelligent development, driven by policy guidance, technological innovation and sustainable market demand.
National policies, such as the 2022 Guidelines on the High-Quality Development of the Chemical Fiber Industry, have laid a foundation for transformation. Chen Xinwei of the China Chemical Fiber Industry Association (CCFA) noted that the industry’s innovation capacity directly boosts the textile sector’s competitiveness.

Green development is a key focus: China’s lyocell fiber output, a biodegradable bio-based material, exceeded 400,000 tons in 2024, accounting for over 60% of global capacity. Juncao fiber, another eco-friendly innovation, has also achieved industrialization.

Recycling technology is advancing too, with enterprises building integrated chains to tackle textile waste, while digital upgrading has seen key firms recognized as national intelligent factories and 5G factories.

In 2024, China’s chemical fiber output reached 79.108 million tons (over 60% of global total), with exports rising 12% year-on-year. Experts predict sustained growth, as green and intelligent fibers become core competitiveness.
